These two rings are really special to me. my grandma gave them to me when i gratuated from highschool and since then i always wear them. they are so special to me because my grandma got the purple ring from her father who got them from his father and the silver ring from her mother.
this is my great grand-father and my great grand-mother together with my grandma's oldest sister and my grandma. so they gave my grandma the rings I'm wearing now.
these are my grandma's grandparents so my great great grandparents. he was the original owner of the purple amethist ring.
these soto boemboe's always remember me of my grandma who would always make her soto soup for the yearly familie reunion we would have. at these familie reunion everyone from my familie would come and we would be with alot of people. my grandma has a total of 9 siblings so they would all come with their kids and their grand-kids and great-grand-kids. My grandma would make her soto soup 3 days in advance so the soup tasted amazing.
This is the Malieveld in The Hague, where I live. Every year the Tong Tong fair is at the Malieveld, which is basically a huge Indonesian festival with lots of shops, performances, markets and allot of small restaurants. My mom and i usually go there every year (usually only for the food because its amazing there) but because of corona it's not open anymore :( So i have lots of happy memories at this place.

To be honest there isn’t much going on at het nieuwe instituut the roads have been blocked and the whole street is a mess, there is construction going on. Allot of loud noises so you can’t hear anything and a gross smell of rotting water, mud and gasoline. This is not a place where you want to be around BUT I do see two older men sitting and chatting on a terrace right next to the whole construction mess. They are talking with each other and drinking coffee. The one guy with longer grey hair is explaining something to the other man and seems quite angry about something and I can see the other man getting shy and uncomfortable. The older guy is waving with his finger and slams his hand on the table aggressively. The other guy is just sitting there and is listening to his story shaking his head up and down. The waitress opens the door and goes to the two man and brings a fresh mint thee and suddenly the angry man becomes happy with a smile on his face and thanks the waitress but once the waitress turns her back to them to go back inside, he changes again to this angry person and goes back to telling his “angry” story.
There is allot of negative energy surrounding this man but on the other side of this place (right across from me) I see two people hugging each other and laughing, they seem to be in love with each other since he is kissing her on the forehead and holding her by her waist. They are really close to me so I can hear them well. They start to take a picture with each other. They are talking about his smoking problem and that he hasn’t touched a cigarette in the last 2 weeks because she told him to stop. She becomes really happy and starts to hug him and kiss him out of joy. And they seem really happy with each other. There is a nice energy in this place in comparison to the right of me. The two love birds seem calm and comfortable in this area that smells so bad and start to make out right in front of me. I ruined their moment together with the horde of bikers racing next to them. they become a bit uncomfortable and awkward, and she softly pushes him away and is whispering something and now they stopped. I think they feel uncomfortable because I’m sitting here spying on them. She looks on her phone and decides to leave and gives him a goodbye kiss. She walks of and not even 2 minutes later the guy reaches for his pockets and grabs a cigarette and starts to smoke while walking away. So, he was lying to her that whole time they were speaking. The two men on the other side of me went away when I was concentrated on the couple and the only people, I’m seeing now are sweaty construction workers working, moving pipes from a to b.
One guy steps in this claw machine and rides off to another place. This causes a sandstorm. He starts to ride over pallets, but one pallet slips away while he is riding over it and the (wheels) are stuck in the sand. He steps out takes his safety hat of and his body language becomes really aggressive and irritated. He puts his hat back on, enters the vehicle again and the wheels start to go really fast. Now he is trying, with allot of force, to get out of the sand and this causes a huge sandstorm that is going everywhere, so the terrace next to this is covered in sand. Luckily the two men I saw early already went away, and so did I.
Observation assignment Juliën Dansen
Time: 9 am
Date : Thursday, October 7
Location: Dalton Den Haag (my old high school)
When I opened the doors of this place, I immediately got an anxious feeling. I didn’t have the best experience in high school but I’m really trying to not let that take over my emotions. I’m walking into the main hall and the smell of sweat and old paper got into my nose as soon as I entered the building. I decide to sit in this black wooden uncomfortable seating area near the entrance hall so I can view everyone who gets in and gets out of the building. Some students look at me weird because they don’t know who I am, but most of the students just ignore me (like they always used to). This group of 5 girls is standing in front of me and they are shit-talking about Eva. One girl is talking about how Eva, that she is annoying and that she is not even that pretty and that she doesn’t understand why the boys like her so much. A girl comes through the door, and she walks up to the girls and suddenly the girl group become awkwardly nice and say ‘‘hey Eva’’, and they give each other a hug and start to get into the classroom. I wonder if Eva knows that they talk about her in a bad way? Then this loud bell starts to ring, and I can see the tiredness in people’s faces, and they all start to walk away like a horde of sheep. Now it’s completely quiet until someone storms through the door and tries to sneak up the stairs, but then I hear loud footsteps approach, and someone yells at the guy “heeeey, get over here you’re late!” now the little guy is getting nervous and walks down the stairs and says something about his bike’s flat tire. The teacher looks at him annoyed and points his finger ate the secretariat and the guy is forced to get a too late note. Now another comes walking in but she just looks over it and walks straight up to the secretariat to get the ,to late note and is talking with the people from the secretariat and is waiting for the guy before her.
I made eye contact with the angry man, and he is starting to walk up to me. my heart is pounding like crazy. He is talking to me while I’m still writing and I can taste his coffee through his breath, it smells really bad, and I’m wondering how many coffees he already drank to smell like this. He is asking why I’m not in my class. And I’m responding that my class starts at 10 so I’m doing homework here. He looks at me confused and just walks off without saying anything. Then I saw the beautiful mosaic wall and my eye focused on there for a while because it was so quiet that I could only hear my own voice in my head, because everyone was in class. Then I see this guy walking up to the toilets. I think he is around 13 years old maybe, he is wearing adidas shoes, skinny jeans and a Nike sweater that is 4 sizes to big. He is walking really bored and I can hear his feet weeping the floor while he is walking. He walks past the mosaic and sticks his gum to the mosaic art. He starts to laugh and walks into the toilet, but just in time because an elder (I presume a teacher) is walking past the toilet and stops right iInfront of the mosaic sign and exhales really loud. She looks around and yells the name Hans three times and I can hear keys going up and down from down the hall. Now that the guy is there, they are talking about something and start to get really annoyed and look at the piece of gum. He grabs a crumbled tissue from his pocket and scratches the piece of gum off the mosaic. After that it was completely silent I could feel the pain in my ass because the bench is so uncomfortable so after an hour I decideds to leave this place for good.

final video of my groups work
Gabriel and Seecum
the gesture of standing up for an elderly person in public transport
video of embodeing a traffic light
video of my group and me making a traffic light more human
our final presentation for our traffic lights project
Im in such a hurry I have to be on time, time, time, time. It’s always about time. Everything around us is about time. When the light above me turns green it means that traffic must proceed in the direction denoted, if it is safe to do so, for me it means that I’m allowed to move wherever I want I’m a free human being, but when it turns red it Prohibits any traffic from proceeding. I’m forced to let the red light choose my faith, I’m not in control anymore. At least I know that the traffic lights are designed to make it a more safe space for everyone but on the other hand I’m waisting my time waiting for a pole with lights to tell me to move on or stop . In my own thoughts waiting for a sign to go on with my life. When it’s red it’s like time stands still and you can just relax and think of nothing for the seconds it’s red, but when it’s green again I have to continue in this busy life I choose. But what happens when I pass the street even though the lights warn me to stand still? Why do they prevent me from living my life, I wanna cross the street so bad. Im just gonna run across real fast and I’ll be on time time ti.....
the first class. I couldn't be their but I asked what was going on and it seemed really fun.
the second class we started by learning about Gabriels projects and how we could use our body in public transport. we also listened to a audio recording of Gabriel and Seecum my group and me came up with the traffic light scenario because, a traffic lights enables your movement. when we are forced to wait for a light to turn we aren't free human beings anymore. so we made a video embodying the traffic lights and different scenarios when it lets you pass or wait.
during the next class we presented our video and then we went outside for a walk. we had to walk after each other in a train formation and couldn't talk to each other. it was kinda awkward since allot of people stared at us but it was really fun to do. after that we did it again but then we had to close our eyes.
I made this poem to show how a traffic light controller us in our free movement. I wanted our group to perform this in a similar way as a traffic light would. so we wore red orange and green head scarfs and we performed it like a traffic light.
Module B
the first class we had to be at school at 9 am and it was really early, but I was really happy I went because this class was so interesting, we started off with a introduction and after that we all had to draw something that came up in our mind when we listened to a small text/quote.
after that we discussed some uncomfortable situations and actions of people.
after that we had to pick a subject we wanted to work with and make groups with it my group and me choose sexuality.
the next class we had class online and my group and me were talking about what we wanted to do. we were all really interested with the subject about always making the ugly queer people the villains in fairytales. for example Captain Hook is a very feminine guy and Ursula is inspired by drag queen Devine.
the third class we got shown allot of projects for inspiration and after that we worked in groups again and we decided to go further with the villain fairy tale theme and we decided to make a fairytale that reverses the harmful stereotypes that are usually there. we made the story and I drawed the illustrations for the story.
yesterday we printed the book and finished everything
I wanna thank all the teachers for this practice for making this such a interesting and wonderful practice. I really had fun and learned so much from it :)
